Abilene police said an arson suspect threatened to kill his girlfriend before setting her apartment on fire.

That fire destroyed the apartment complex.

Kevin Earl Spurlock, 31, is charged with arson and terroristic threat of family or household.

His bond was set at $275,000.

According to the arrest report, Spurlock threatened to kill his girlfriend Sunday morning.

A short time later, she saw smoke coming from her bedroom at the Briarwood Apartments.

Investigators said Spurlock lit several items on fire in his girlfriend’s bedroom and then left the apartment.

The fire eventually burned down almost the entire complex.

KTXS reporter John Rupolo confirmed there was a criminal trespass order in place against Spurlock. He wasn’t supposed to be on the property. R

“He’s busted out plate glass windows. He’s threatened people. He is not a tenant and he’s not allowed to be on the property,” said apartment manager Alisha Thomas.

As a result of the fire, at least 65 people are looking for new places to live.
