ABILENE, TX— Since January 2021, Tye Police Chief Jay Strong said there have been over a hundred people arrested for human smuggling.
“They’re trying to fulfill the American Dream,” Strong said. “I believe that.”
Strong’s heart breaks knowing migrants are being used by human smugglers.
“What they are being told is going to happen is not a reality, it’s not the American Dream,” said Strong.
Many drug cartels have turned into human smugglers.
Strong said immigrants will pay money to cross.
“There is a lot of thought that goes into it, it’s a big industry,” said Chief Strong.
