BAYTOWN, TX – After failing to appear in court, authorities have confirmed a 32-year-old mother has been arrested after the death of her two-month-old daughter.
According to police, back in September Nikki Reardon’s infant daughter was found dead inside a room at the Scottish Inn Suites.
Law enforcement found the baby after they received a tip about a deceased baby, When officers arrived at they found Reardon wearing a sports bra and shorts.
Officers observed children’s clothing and toys strewn about the room, but Reardon refused to answer questions regarding the infant.
After officers obtained a search warrant for the room, they located the infant inside a pink duffle bag surrounded by ice. The caller who provided the tip claimed the child had been dead for at least 48 hours.
According to officers, Reardon told officers that she was selling meth and cocaine to make a living. On the day that the infant died, she claimed she was packing stuff at the hotel at 8:00 a.m. and when she woke up at 4:15 p.m. the child was face down on the bed.
When questioned why she did not seek medical attention for her daughter, she reportedly said:
“It was too late. She wasn’t breathing. What were they going to do?”
Reardon has not been charged directly in the death of her daughter, but she is facing charges for tampering with evidence, primarily a corpse, and endangering a child in connection to the case. She is also facing charges of aggravated robbery charge and violating probation.
At this time, the cause of the death for the infant has not been released and Reardon is expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
