ABILENE, TX – Saturday afternoon, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of an an adult male in the area where a swimmer had vanished last week.

On Saturday, April 17, a search for a missing swimmer in Lake Travis was underway after a swimmer went under the water near 5975 Hi Line Road and never resurfaced.

The missing man was last seen near a boat that was anchored in Devil’s Cove. Officials say that area of the lake is about 35 feet deep with low visibility due to silt.

Divers and thermal cameras combed the waters for over an hour, but were unsuccessful in finding the swimmer and transitioned the mission to recovery efforts.

Throughout the next week, TCSO employed a number of search methods including sonar, drone, shoreline and surface searches.

The TCSO’s Dive Team actively searched for four days with the help of the Lower Colorado River Authority, the Jonestown Police Department, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, who brought a dog to aid the search efforts.

The body was discovered a week later, on Saturday afternoon.

Officials say an announcement will follow when the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office is able to confirm the man’s identity.
