Abilene High pitcher Perez embracing challenges of leadership role

ABILENE, TX – Abilene High pitcher Maddie Perez was given a tough assignment this season.

Following in the footsteps of aces Kaylen Washington and Aubrianna Salazar, who pitched the the Lady Eagles to a combined 42-7-2 record the past two seasons, the junior right-hander was handed the ball and asked to help a relatively inexperienced team continue the work their predecessors did to build a winning tradition at AHS.

With just three district games remaining, Perez and her teammates have an opportunity to do just that. While sporting a modest 10-8 overall record and 5-4 mark in District 2-6A, the Lady Eagles can still check off one of their biggest goals by finishing this season in the playoffs.

And though they have tough games remaining against Odessa High (18-6, 8-2), Midland High (22-3, 8-1) and San Angelo Central (10-5, 4-5), coach Jim Reese is glad to have Perez on his side heading into the most important stretch of his season.
