Abilene man shot by SWAT threatened to kill his wife

Abilene police said a man they shot over the weekend threatened to kill his wife.

Mario Cearda Rivera, Jr., 45, is charged with aggravated kidnapping.

His bond was set at $250,000.

Rivera called 911 just before Noon after telling his wife that he was going to kill her.

He held a knife to her throat while on the phone.

According to the arrest report, Rivera told the dispatcher that he was going to kill his wife and that he wanted police to shoot him.

He held his wife hostage for about an hour.

Rivera eventually drug his wife by her hair, out the front door, while holding a knife to her throat.

A SWAT officer then fired a single shot, hitting Rivera.

Rivera was treated at the hospital and later released.
