ABILENE, TX— The Abilene Police Department is investigating a pedestrian-fatality crash that occurred early Saturday along Winters Freeway.
According to a press release from the APD, officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at approximately 1:45 a.m. Saturday along the Winters Freeway.
Dispatch received a call from a driver saying he believed he hit a person with his vehicle.
Responding officers found a man dead near Southwest Drive and the southbound side of Winters Freeway, near the ramp.
The driver made the call as he headed to a home in the Lytle South area. Officers were able to contact him later.
The man who was found dead was identified as Mark Burrow, 24, of Lubbock. Burrow’s next of kin have been notified.
The driver of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt that struck the pedestrian was identified as Nicholas Mills, 30, of Abilene.
Mills was arrested and charged with second-degree felony intoxicated manslaughter and second-degree felony failure to stop and render aid, according to the APD.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information was available for release.
