Abilene teenager accused of racing on S. 1st Street: Cars clocked at 96 mph, 116 mph

An Abilene teenager is accused of racing another vehicle on S. 1st Street.

According to the arrest report, police saw a 2010 Ford Mustang and a second vehicle racing down S. 1st just before midnight on Friday.

The radar showed the Mustang was going 96 mph and the other vehicle was traveling 116 mph.

Both vehicles continued to gain speed as they passed the officer, according to the report.

The officer turned on their overhead lights and sirens in an attempt to catch up to the vehicles.

The driver of the Mustang, Hayden Reed Hammond, 17, pulled over.

The officer said Hammond admitted that he was racing the other vehicle.

He was charged with racing on a public roadway and released on a $750 bond.
