ABILENE, TX — ACU turned off the lights at its football stadium Tuesday afternoon.
KTXS contacted the University at 10 a.m. after viewers asked why the lights at Wildcat stadium were on during a statewide power shortage.
Some of those viewers live near campus and did not have power themselves.
The University released the following statement at 11:18 p.m.
We are aware lights are on in ACU’s Wildcat Stadium and are working with the light manufacturer and campus facilities to address the situation. The stadium lights are programmed to come on automatically, powered by a generator, in case of emergency and power loss. We’ve been in touch with the stadium lighting company last night and this morning to attempt to override the setting. We’re also working with electricians to continue to explore other solutions.
At 1:30 p.m., the University said “electricians were able to do a reset and lights are off now.”
