TX – Border agents detained a group of 107 immigrants who had illegally crossed the Rio Grande river into Texas, including 10 unaccompanied children, according to Customs and Border Protection.
The group, including 95 family members and two single adults, was nabbed near La Joya on Saturday.
Members of the group are from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Romania.
CBP said agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector have encountered groups of 100 or more people 36 times this year.
The thousands of unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors arriving at the border have caused headaches for the Biden administration as it struggles to find housing for the children, opening military bases and convention centers.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced on Monday that the administration has adopted a Trump-esque policy, reaching an agreement with leaders in Mexico and Central America to help stem the tide of immigrants arriving at the US border.
The agreement is similar to the deal former President Donald Trump reached with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2019 to use its national guard at the Guatemalan border to halt migrants traveling from there to the US.
