HOUSTON, TX – Celebrity chef David Chang is bringing his love for food to Texas with his latest concept, Fuku.

Fuku, his delivery-only concept, will serve fried chicken sandwiches and fries from locations in Dallas, Plano and Houston.

Chang has managed to make a name for himself in the food industry through his award-winning Momufuku culinary brand and appearances on shows like “Ugly Delicious” on Netflix and “The Mind of a Chef” on PBS.

The chef and restaurateur started his first restaurant—Momofuku Noodle Bar—in 2004 and expanded across the country and beyond. Now he’s working on his “cousin” restaurant Fuku.

Fuku is a delivery-only eatery that offers five different fried, spicy chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders. The restaurant operates as a “ghost kitchen,” meaning you can only order via delivery and there’s no dining room.

The concept for the Fuku “ghost kitchen” was piloted in New York and then expanded to other major cities like Chicago and Philadelphia.

The delivery-only concept was researched thoroughly, as Chang is “fascinated with delivery,” CEO Alex Muñoz-Suarez told The Dallas Morning News.

The restaurant partnered with Reef Technology to launch the kitchens, and they use food delivery services like Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub for connecting with customers. Following Reef’s model, the ghost kitchens will reside in parking garages or inside parking lots.

Fuku’s two Houston area locations will start delivering on April 6 and then expand with two more on April 7. Muñoz-Suarez stated that the mission is to have “six more operating in the city of Houston.”

To celebrate the launch, customers in Texas get free delivery via Uber Eats through April 30.

The profits made from opening day across Texas will be donated to the Southern Smoke Foundation, an organization founded by Houston chef Chris Shepherd. The Southern Smoke Foundation is the same foundation Chang won $1 million for on the show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
