The City of Abilene estimated more than 1,000 people were vaccinated through Wednesday’s vaccination clinic.

For this week’s clinic, there were two lines: one for those with appointments, another for people wanting to make an appointment for the next clinic or possibly get any leftover doses.

“I went right in, never even stopped,” said Roxanne Hello, who signed up for the waitlist last week and got a call to schedule her appointment this past Monday.

Hello got her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday.

“Didn’t hurt, felt like getting the flu shot, and everything is good!” she said.

Another woman, Margaret Brandon, also got her first dose on Wednesday.

Brandon told KTXS she didn’t wait for a call.

“I had to stand in line last week to get an appointment,” she said. “Stood in line about an hour and a half. Wasn’t easy.”

The City of Abilene said during a media briefing on Tuesday to ensure no dose goes to waste.

“The main purpose is to allow people an additional way to sign up for a vaccine,” said Health Director Annette Lerma. “I would not show up to the line anticipating that you would get a vaccine because it’s more likely that you will not.”

Even with that warning, Pierce LoPachin is one of dozens who got in line.

“I want to get the vaccine to make sure we all reach herd immunity,” said LoPachin.

The City said they are continuing to call the roughly 25,000 who are still on the waitlist to try and get them scheduled.

They are also encouraging those in Phase 1A and 1B to call the Health Department at (325) 692-5600 to schedule an appointment time.
