ABILENE, TX — The City of Abilene apologized for any confusion caused by an earlier message regarding the executive order issued by Gov. Greg Abbott Friday.
According to a press release from the City, it encourage business owners and residents to follow the order, which limits some businesses and services in order to control the spread of COVID-19.
The City said it did not intend to imply any disregard for the governor’s order or support any kind of actions from the public that would go against the order.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) will be the authority to enforce the order, but the City is asking its residents to comply with the order.
The TABC will identify any bar or restaurant owners not complying with the governor’s order and remove its liquor license, if necessary.
Events scheduled within the City of Abilene for June and July will more than likely proceed. The City said it has the right to cancel outdoor events with more than 100 attendees if there is danger to the public’s health. The City will review COVID-19 hospitalizations and infection rates to make any decisions and is encouraging its residents to use common sense, be responsible, avoid large crowds and follow safety protocols.
