ABILENE, TX – UT Dallas won its third American Southwest Conference Women’s Tennis Championship by defeating Hardin-Simmons 5-1 in the finals at the Streich Tennis Center Saturday.
The Comets (12-3), who were the top seed from the East Division, led 2-1 after doubles, which included an 8-5 victory at No. 1 from Kathy Joseph and Samantha Wong and an 8-7 (7-4) win at No. 2 from Saumya Vedula and Rebecca Jackson.
The Cowgirls (9-7), who were the top seed from the West, earned a No. 3 doubles win from McKenna Bryan and Brianne Dumas by the score of 8-3
In singles, UTD won at No. 1 when Kathy Joseph took a 6-1, 6-4 decision. Suzuka Nishino won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 and tournament MVP Rebecca Jackson clinched the title at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The Comets also won the title in 2013 and 2019. They earn the ASC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship. The field for the NCAA tournament will be announced on Monday, May 10.
