ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department has confirmed seven officers have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to KTXS, the officers were tested after “possible exposure to a first responder last week on several calls for service.”

Some of the officers have no symptoms, but they are all currently quarantined. The department confirmed they would not be allowed to return to work until they are released by the Abilene-Taylor County Health Department.

More than 20 additional officers who were on those calls have been tested for coronavirus and have had negative results.

“We want to ensure the public that the Department has a strong contingency staffing plan in the case of more positive results,” said the department in a statement.
