ABILENE, TX — The City of Abilene said 475 people who owed a combined total of $100,000 in unpaid parking tickets avoided embarrassing consequences.
Earlier this month, the City warned drivers owing more more than $1,000 in outstanding fines that they needed to pay off their debts or set up a payment plan by Dec. 16.
If they failed to do so, the City said they would publish their names.
“Some of them, I think people will be shocked to learn who they are,” City Manager Robert Hanna told KTXS at the time.
Hanna said the money from the parking ticket fines go to the City’s general fund, which pays for roads, first responders, even COVID-19 vaccines.
