ABILENE, TX — An Abilene teen — originally from El Salvador — has a unique view of the border crisis.
He asked us to not identify him.
“Most people don’t understand what we are going through in our country,” he said.
His country was overrun by gangs.
It’s an issue that stems from a civil war in the 1980s
The young man we’ll call “Sam” watched family members shot and killed in front of him.
“You’re not free, they control you they tell you what to do,” said Sam.
The teen is here legally on a green card. That process started before he was born. At the age of ten, he was able to receive it.
“It was hard to get the papers,” said Sam.
Sam has now been in the U.S. for a few years.
He now works to pay rent and says he’s never received welfare.
The U.S. is now his home and hopes to receive full citizenship.
