Former Abilene lawyer sentenced to 10 years in prison

An Abilene lawyer was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday for violating his parole.

Court documents show the State of Texas filed a motion to revoke Burt Burnett’s probation after he tested positive for methamphetamine on or about September 16, 2020, October 5, 2020, October 12, 2020, November 9, 2020, December 23, 2020, and January 12, 2021.

In 2019, Burnett pleaded guilty to felony charges.

Prosecutors claim he stole $500,000 in settlement money.
