ABILENE, TX – After a suspect in a murder-for-hire case sat in the Brown County Jail for five months without legal representation, he’s about to get an attorney.

Judge Timothy Hinkfuss decided to appoint a county-paid attorney during a Tuesday hearing.

Laene Piontek is one of more than 200 people in the Brown County court waiting to be assigned a public defender.

Piontek was charged last June with sexually assaulting an underage girl.  Later, another inmate told authorities Piontek offered him 20-thousand dollars to kill the victim and her mother.

His first attorney quit the case in September.
