ABILENE, TX – I know one thing we can all agree on, that the year 2020 has been a year we would all want to leave behind once and for all. As 2021 approaches, I know I want to go running to it, as fast as possible, leaving 2020 behind once and for all.

The Abilene Sports Alliance (A.S.A. of the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau ACVB) is going to help us to start Running to 2021 and achieve the afore mentioned with a 5k run, walk and one mile kids run. The event will kick off Saturday January 2nd, 2021.

The inaugural run is being called “Running to 2021 5K” an event that will help us all start the new year in a healthy way. The best part is that if you’re a runner you can run the entire course. If you’re a walker you can walk the 5k. However if you’re anything like me, I’ll start off by running, then walking a little, then running again, then…well, you get the idea.

Even better we can get the kids involved with their very own “1 Mile Kids Fun Run.” After a year like we’ve had, I know I’d like to get outdoors and so do our children. So lets start Running to 2021.

Now, if you’ve enjoyed some of the holiday’s favorite treats or you’ve put on a pound or two during the pandemic, this is a great way to get those New Year’s resolutions started. Besides, all the proceeds will go toward ‘scholarships to high school athletes and grants to support sporting events that generate hotel stays and bring business to Abilene,’ according to the ACVB.
