Texas DPS implements ‘no refusal’ policy for DWI tests during Strawberry Festival weekend

TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety is cracking down on drinking and driving this weekend in Atascosa County.

In cooperation with county law enforcement, DPS announced Wednesday a “no refusal” policy for DWI tests during the Poteet Strawberry Festival.Any individual arrested for a DWI in the county from Thursday, April 8 through Sunday April 11 will not legally be allowed to refuse a breathalyzer or blood alcohol test.

DPS said in a press release that the no refusal weekend aims to keep drunk drivers off roads during the popular event.

According to BCP Criminal Defense Attorneys in Floresville, fines for DWIs in Atascosa County range from $2,000 for a first offense up to $10,000 for a third offense. Jail sentences can last a few days or up to 10 years.
