Abilene, TX – According to the officials, this bill was introduced by State Sen. Dawn Buckingham.

House Bill 1925 would make camping in public places a Class C misdemeanor with a fine of up to $500.

The bill wants law enforcement to redirect homeless people to local resources.

Representative Lambert voted in favor of the bill.

Representative Stan Lambert of House District 71, from Abilene, said:

“I voted for HB 1925 when it was put before the Texas House on May 6. It is unfortunate that cities have chosen to ignore the problems instead of look for solutions that help people move into more stable housing, like our communities are doing in House District 71.”
