HOUSTON, TX – What’s amazing about Houston?
Well, many things. One of them is the fact that it has its own Museum District full of fascinating museums to explore with your children, on your own or with a friend. Museums are wonderful places to gain some new knowledge while also having fun and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere, and I personally love them.
Without further ado, here are the 3 fascinating art museums that can be found right in the Houston Museum District.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (or MFAH) is one of the largest museums in all of the United States! There are more than 65 thousand works of art and plenty of amazing exhibitions. It’s also the oldest art museum in all of Texas – in 1924, the first museum building opened to the public.
Some of the collecting areas of the museum are for example: “American Painting & Sculpture” that displays works from the 18th century to 1940, “Arts of Asia” that shows works connected to culture from countries such as China, Japan, Korea or India, or “European Art” where you get to see paintings and sculptures from the 13th century all the way to early 20th century.
One of the current exhibitions (at the time of writing this article, 8th April 2021) focuses on David Hockney and Vincent van Gogh. It displays their works next to each other and shows their similarities. The exhibition is to be on until the 20th of June 2021.
