Forty-seven dogs from Abilene Animal Services received a second chance at life thanks to a grant from the Petco Foundation and partnership with Dog Is My CoPilot, Inc.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday, the dogs were loaded up and taken to the Abilene airport.

It was paws and wheels up at 5 a.m. with destinations of California, Colorado, and Idaho.

Abilene Animal Services Director Mike Bricker told KTXS how it feels to potentially save the lives of 47 animals.

“That’s why we do this,” Bricker said. “It’s honestly one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.”
