GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Gaydon records 19 as Frenship routs Abilene High

ABILENE, TX – Airron Gaydon poured in a game-best 19 points to help Frenship secure the 96-30 win over Abilene High in District 2-6A play Tuesday inside the Tiger Pit.

With the victory, the Tigers ((17-5, 8-1) secured their 19th straight playoff berth by downing the Lady Cougars (3-14, 2-7).

Gaydon, who made four of Frenship’s 15 total three-pointers, helped the Tigers record a single-game scoring record as well. Riley Roberts (13 points), Mikah Chapman (12 points) and Abbi Watson (11 points) balanced out of the offense.

Frenship is scheduled to take on San Angelo Central (13-5, 7-1) in a 6 p.m. Thursday contest with the winner ensuring a strong path toward the district lead.

Christ the King 35, Kingdom Prep Academy 25

Ella Rivera finished with 15 points and two rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as CTK dropped a TAPPS district game to KPA.

Angel Trevino ended the night with six points, 10 rebounds and four steals for Christ the King, which led by four points with five minutes left in the game.

Coronado 55, Abilene Wylie 49

Kya Smith had another double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Lady Mustangs claimed a District 4-5A win over Wylie.

With the triumph, Coronado (9-12, 4-3) kept itself in the conversation for a playoff berth by defeating second-place Wylie (11-11, 5-2).

Mia Trevino scored 32 points and Tatiana Trotter added 10 to lead the Lady Plainsmen to a win over Abilene Cooper.

Shallowater 61, Childress 52

SHALLOWATER — Tynli Harris scored 19 points and top-ranked Shallowater stayed undefeated, turning back an upset bid by District 2-3A foe Childress.

Harris made three 3-point goals in the quarter, which started with the score tied 44-44.

Bree Brattain, Taylor Moravcik and Summer Williams scored 15, 13 and eight points, respectively, for Shallowater (21-0, 10-0).

Childress got 20 points from Addi Keys and 15 from Lubbock Christian University signee Grace Foster. Lily Stephens and Cameron Daniel added six points apiece, all on 3-point goals.

Brooke Hooten scored 17 points and gathered seven rebounds, and No. 3 Lubbock Christian High knocked off No. 1 Trinity Christian.

LCHS led 41-29 after three quarters and pulled away in the fourth.

Skyler Simmons and Abbie Crow scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Eagles (14-7, 4-0), who shot better than 65 percent from the field. Lexi Caddell and Hagan Bennett were right behind with eight apiece, and Mara Dendy had seven rebounds and five assists.

Graci Bonner and Zaiah Buchannan led Trinity Christian (9-8, 3-1) with 10 points apiece, Buchannan grabbing 10 rebounds and Bonner nine. Bonnee Busby had eight points and five steals.

LORENZO — Casi Garcia scored 14 points and No. 14 Lorenzo ran its win streak to 11 games by beating Crosbyton in District 6-1A play.

Karisa Garza scored 13 points for the Lady Hornets (17-1, 7-0), who built a 34-13 lead by halftime. Lucero Lopez and Clarissa Salinas were good for 10 apiece, and Aurora Ordaz chipped in nine.

Thalia Guerrero led Crosbyton with 14 points, and Bayleigh Callaway was next with 10.

Brownfield 76, Denver City 43

DENVER CITY — Gabi Fields scored 16 points, three teammates joined her in double-digit scoring and No. 7 Brownfield beat District 3-3A rival Denver City for its 11th victory in a row.

The Lady Cubs (19-1, 9-0) had plenty of firepower with Deja Johnson scoring 15 points, Lindsey Herrera 14 and Dabria Blackwell 13. Brownfield’s only setback this season was Dec. 12 against Amarillo High, which is ranked No. 10 in Class 5A.

Valarie Yanez scored 18 points for Denver City, and Bella De La Rosa followed with nine.

New Deal 62, Ralls 43

NEW DEAL — Ghenevieve Vasquez hit five 3-point goals in a 23-point night, leading New Deal over Ralls and keeping the Lady Lions unbeaten in District 4-2A.

Vasquez made three 3s in the first quarter, helping New Deal (14-7, 5-0) establish a 20-8 lead, and scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to help salt the game away.

Charli Garland, Gloralee Martinez, Jaiden Rodriguez and McKenna Booth added 10, nine, eight and seven points, respectively, for the Lady Lions.

Ralls (11-11, 4-2) got 22 points from Callie Humphrey and 14 from Melanie Castro.
