Authorities advise avoiding the I-20 west from Abilene

NOLAN COUNTY, TX —The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are asking drivers to avoid Interstate 20 between Abilene and Sweetwater.

They said that I-20 in Nolan County is overcrowded with snow and traffic and there is a standstill between mile markers 235 and 263, and Trent. Due to the high traffic, TxDOT can’t get their equipment there to plow the snow.

DPS reported that I-20 is backed up from Roscoe in Nolan County to Trent in Taylor County due to poor roadways and stranded and crashed cars.

They strongly advise drivers not taking this route as they will be stuck for hours and strongly urge getting out of their homes only if there’s a strong need, as more snow is expected.
