BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Kiser drives in three, Frenship downs Abilene High

ABILENE, TX — Coldon Kiser ended the day with three RBI, while his offense put up four runs in the two innings, as Frenship defeated Abilene High 15-3 in a five-inning District 2-6A contest Saturday.

Evan Johnson and Barrett Workman each drove in two runs for the Tigers, who held a 6-2 advantage after three complete before a four-run fourth broke the game open.

Shallowater 4, Slaton 0

SLATON — Breken Ramos struck out 14 and scattered two hits in a complete-game performance which helped the Mustangs down the Tigers in District 2-3A action.

Ramos, who threw 112 pitches in seven innings, was unable to get going at the plate as he did not record a hit. But Shallowater scored two in the first inning and never relinquished the lead due to Ramos’ effort on the mound.

Lake Country Christian 8, Lubbock Christian 7

Kaylom Coates had two RBI, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles gave up five runs in the seventh on the way to a TAPPS district loss.

Josh Redding, Cade Landrum,Jackson Smith and Zach Rogers each drove in a run.

Plainview 11, Palo Duro 0 (5 inn.)

PLAINVIEW — Caleb Lusk drove in two runs, while Tyler Rodrguez had two RBI, as the Bulldogs claimed a District 3-5A win over the Dons.

Isaac Garza struck out three and allowed one hit in four innings, while Sabastian Alcala struck out one and yielded a hit, to lead Plainview to the win.

Trinity Christian 16, Willow Park Trinity Christian 2 (5 inn.)

WILLOW PARK — Cadon Everett finished with five RBI to propel the Lions to a TAPPS district win over Willow Park.

Starter Nathan Taylor finished with eight strikeouts and allowed two hits and two runs — one earned — in four innings of work.

New Deal 18, Hale Center 8

HALE CENTER — Gordy Carrasco finished with three RBI, while a pair of teammates drove in two runs, to help the Lions outlast the Owls in a District 3-2A  game.

Harley Patterson and Jonas Rodriguez each had two RBI for New Deal, which trailed 5-4 after one complete before scoring a run in the top of the second and never relinquishing the lead.

Crobyston 6, Ropes 3

CROSBYTON — Marcos Guerrero, Dylan Doss and EJ Guerrero each had an RBI to help Crosbyton down Ropes in a District 4-2A game.

Ethan Stanaland, who came on in relief after two innings, struck out four in the win for the Chiefs which scored five runs in the third inning.

Logan Delgado and Branson Beck each drove in a run for the Eagles.

Abernathy 15, Roosevelt 0 (5 inn.)

ABERNATHY — Kaeleb Carrillo and Tanner Timms each drove in four runs to power the Antelopes to a District 2-3A contest.

Jess Hoel set the tone on the mound, striking out nine in a 71-pitch, no-hit performance for Abernathy.

Levelland 1, Snyder 0

LEVELLAND — RJ Ochoa singled to drive in Blake Klose for the go-ahead run as Levelland beat Snyder, 1-0, during District 3-4A action Friday.

Dylan Bordayo and Klose contributed the Lobos’ other hits in the contest.

Joel Pena fanned nine and held the Tigers to three hits over seven innings to earn the win. Leeroy Tavarez took the loss in 6 ⅓ innings and struck out six while walking three. He also had two of Snyder’s three hits on the night. Austin Escobedo had the other on a double in the top of the fifth inning.

Estacado 5, Lake View 4

Frank Guzman scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch as the Matadors pocketed the District 3-4A victory over the Chiefs.

Guzman went 2-for-2 and scored three total runs in contest. Bryson Quevedo scored the game-tying run when Ben Gonzales was intentionally walked to set up Guzman’s score.

Xavien Sandoval held Lake View to two earned runs on a hit with a walk and strikeout in two innings.

Lubbock-Cooper 9, Coronado 5

WOODROW — Kyler Jordan went 2-for-4 with a double, scored twice and batted in four more runs as the Pirates remained perfect in District 4-5A play with the win over the Mustangs.

Cutter Douglas tripled for two total hits and a run scored, while Teige Mitchell collected two RBI on 2-for-4 hitting for LCP

Sawyer Robertson hit a home run and Charlie Robinson tripled as the two Mustangs finished with two RBI.

Esai Torres took the loss, allowing four runs — three earned — on three hits with a strikeout and three walks over three innings. Will Qualia earned the win and gave up three earned runs on four hits while issuing two walks and fanning two in 2 ⅔ innings of work. Holt Gibson struck out seven in three innings pitched to pocket the save.

Lubbock High 10, Monterey 0 (5 innings)

Max Hernandez went 3-for-4, which included a double, scored three times and batted in two more runs as the Westerners shut out the Plainsmen in District 4-5A action at Chapman Field.

Brandon Smith doubled and had three hits, while picking up the win on the mound. He gave up three hits and had a strikeout over five innings. Javan Hambrick contributed three runs scored to Lubbock High’s offensive prowess.

Jackson Jolly, Nate Ramos and Daniel Morales each had a hit for Monterey.

Josh Aleman absorbed the loss, giving up six runs — two earned — on six hits in 2 ⅓ innings.

Plainview 15, Caprock 0 (5 innings)

AMARILLO — Isaac Garza homered and had five RBI on two hits as the Bulldogs shut out the Longhorns for the District 3-5A win.

Garza also struck out four and gave up only five hits over five innings on the mound. Austin Hauk doubled and collected two RBI, while Charles Gipson hit a double for two total hits and two runs scored.

Frenship 9, Abilene High 5

WOLFFORTH — Evan Johnson hit two doubles as he and Jake Sherrard had three hits apiece to help the Tigers win the District 2-6A series over the Eagles.

Johnson also had two RBI with Tristan Laughlin also batting in two runs with a hit. Brock Rogers went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.

Gage Cobb fanned five, issued four walks and gave up one run — none earned — on two hits in six innings to garner the win.

Denver City 5, Dimmitt 4

DENVER CITY — Israel Gandara went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the Mustangs’ win over the Bobcats.

RJ Hurtado added on two runs scored to the victory.

David Escobar earned the win on the mound, giving up only two earned runs on three hits while fanning three and walking two.

Willow Park Trinity Christian 7, Lubbock Trinity Christian 6

WEATHERFORD — Eli Carter and Colton St. Peters each scored twice, but the Lions fell to the Eagles during TAPPS District 1-4A play at Weatherford College.

Evan Chrane provided the Lions with two RBI, a base hit and a run scored. Malen Baldridge took the loss after giving up six runs — five earned — on eight hits despite striking out five batters.

Lake Country Christian 9, Lubbock Christian 4

Major Due went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, but Lubbock Christian fell to the visiting Eagles during TAPPS District 1-4A action at home.

Kaylom Coats had two hits and two RBI for LCHS. Despite racking up eight strikeouts, Josh Redding absorbed the loss, allowing nine runs — one earned — on four hits with six walks in six innings on the mound.

Randall 26, Muleshoe 1

MULESHOE — Zach Hasley scored the Mules’ lone run in the loss to the Raiders.
