Longtime Sweetwater city employee arrested for theft of thousands at Roscoe Fire Dept.

Gary Lee Armstrong, 53, was arrested on March 29 for theft of property by a public servant between $30,000 and $150,000. The charges stem from an investigation started by the the Texas Rangers while Armstrong was fire chief at the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department in 2018.

According to the indictment obtained by KTXS Armstrong was allegedly stealing thousands of dollars, the existing fire chief at the Roscoe Fire Department Virgel Pruitt said,

““Mr. Armstrong resigned after we began an investigation and notified law enforcement into missing funds at the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department back in 2018,” Nolan County District Attorney Richard Thompson said,

“We believe illegal behavior had been going on for some time while Mr. Armstrong was with the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department.”

Armstrong was fired by the City of Sweetwater last week. He had been with the City for 31 years working at the water plant as a system operations manager.
