ABILENE, TX- Abilene Animal Services picked up a skunk in far south Abilene which tested positive for rabies.
They alert pet owners of this area to be cautious of their pets, to be aware of their whereabouts at all time and if there are any wild animals around.
The area where it was found is in the area of Highway 83/84 North, Bacacita Road, FM-707, and Clark Road.
The Abilene Animal Services Director Justin Lelesch advises that “all pet owners just need to be aware and keep a close eye on family pets.” Even if your pet is fully vaccinated and has had “direct contact with a rabid animal, it’s better to have them tested and know for sure.”.
If you come in contact with a rabid animal, you should immediately contact the Abilene Animal Services Shelter at 325-692-0085 and get your pet tested.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the signs of an infected animal are fearfulness, aggression, seizures, paralysis, excessive drooling, but sometimes they can be affectionate and not show any aggression.
