SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Health Foundation said it has awarded 11 nonprofit organizations $1,235,674, as well as elected new officers and an additional trustee.
According to a San Angelo Health Foundation press release, with the addition of the grants, 228 organizations and 807 projects have benefited from Foundation funding since it began.
The grants encompass community impact, education, public safety, mental health and youth development, according to Steve Cecil, grants chair.
The organizations awarded grants are:
San Angelo State University – awarded $45,450 to purchase a Horizon-DXA machine for the Archer College of Health and Human Services. The DXA machine allows for hands-on teaching and research.
Immanuel Baptist Church – awarded $2,956 to purchase two automated external defibrillators. The church hosts Kids Eat Free, House of Faith and a Celebrate Recovery program.
Keep San Angelo Beautiful – awarded $24,268 for an eco-fair & household hazardous waste recycling event to be held May 22. The organization hosts events to collect and recycle items. It also provides educational programs for the community.
RL4 Restoration Foundation – awarded $100,000 to purchase playground equipment and install new restrooms to upgrade a community park in Robert Lee. The foundation was created to make restorations and improvements to the Robert Lee community.
Volunteer Services Council (VSC) for the San Angelo State Supported Living Center(SASSLC) – awarded $5,000 to fund its employee pantry. The center works with families, staff and community to enrich the lives of the SASSLC.
Sonrisas Trails – awarded $75,000 to implement and market private pay rider classes and a ropes challenge course program. The organization offers therapeutic horseback riding to people with physical, mental and emotional challenges through a structured program of equine activities.
Texas Ramp Project – awarded $15,000 to build wheelchair ramps for Concho Valley residents. The project’s mission is to build wheelchair ramps for low-income elderly or disabled community members through referrals from social service agencies.
United Way of the Concho Valley – awarded $48,000 to fund a Community Impact and Marketing Director. The organization funds nonprofits whose programs align with three primary focus areas: education, health and financial stability.
Wall Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) – awarded $85,000 to purchase a water tanker truck and portable water tank. The VFD provides fire-fighting services, fire education and helps EMS at accidents in a rural area consisting of 474 miles.
Water Valley Volunteer Fire Department (VFD)- awarded $85,000 for the purchase of a water tanker truck and portable water tank. The VDP provides firefighting and emergency rescues service to several counties, including Tom Green, Reagan, Coke, Irion and part of Sterling.
YMCA of San Angelo – awarded $750,000 to relocate Little Explorers Preschool Program. The YMCA offers programs, such as after-school and pre-school childcare. Little Explorers Preschool Program is a Texas School Ready certified program for children ages three to five.
