The state’s case total is now 2,905,110, including 2,486,826 confirmed and 418,284 probable ones.
There are 2,399 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 496 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 3.1% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.
The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 4.3% as of Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.6%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.
According to the state, 11,447,408 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 8,709,410 — 38.8% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported four deaths and 122 cases Sunday.
The victims were a woman in her 50s from Fort Worth, a woman in her 60s from Arlington, a man in his 70s from Mansfield and a man in his 80s who lived in Sansom Park. All had underlying high-risk health conditions.
Of the new cases, 87 were confirmed and 35 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 258,237, including 216,673 confirmed and 41,564 probable. The death toll is 3,454.
According to the county, 164 people were hospitalized with the virus Friday.
According to the state, 780,033 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 609,795 — 37.7% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Dallas County
Dallas County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays. Figures that previously would have been reported Sunday will be released Monday.
As of Saturday, the county’s overall case total was 300,439 — 258,609 confirmed and 41,830 probable. The death toll was 3,928.
County Judge Clay Jenkins said Saturday that the last week was the least deadly of the year for COVID-19.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 223. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 242.
According to the state’s data, 1,033,145 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 779,707 — 38.4% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully immunized.
