Texas – Cannon Elementary School has made the grade.

The dedicated STEM school is one of 10 in the nation, and the only one in Texas, to have been named a 2020-2021 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) School of Excellence.

According to Grapevine-Colleyville ISD officials, the program recognizes “outstanding schools for their commitment to providing a robust Integrative STEM education program.”

Cannon Elementary will officially be awarded the distinction as part of the ITEEA’s Virtual Annual Conference next month.

ITEEA created the designation as a way to officially recognize schools whose teachers, administrators and other stakeholders are providing a meaningful STEM education experience for students, according to the organization.

Cannon was the first elementary school to open in GCISD in 1959, according to Kristin Snively, executive director of communications for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, and it transitioned to a dedicated STEM school during the 2013-2014 school year.
