ABILENE, TX — According to school officials for the Abilene Independent School District, a student at Bowie Elementary was sent home, Monday, after their parent tested positive for COVID-19.

AISD released the following statement:

“Because of federal confidentiality guidelines, we won’t be discussing health issues regarding AISD students or staff, and that includes parents as well. The community can be assured, however, that when we have knowledge of a positive test that affects a campus or facility we will be notifying those families or employees who are directly impacted. The health and safety of each of our students and employees is our No. 1 priority every day.”

AISD Superintendent, Dr. David Young said in a press conference Friday that they know COVID-19 cases will arise at their campuses at some point but they are following the protocols they have set in place to protect parents, faculty, and staff.

“It may be a year of stops and starts.. but we are prepared to do whatever we need to do to keep staff and students safe,” said Young.

According to an SAISD press release, the district has confirmed the first COVID-19 case since the school year began. The case is a staff member at San Jacinto Elementary School.

“Anyone reported to have been in close contact with a positive student or staff member will be contacted with further information.

The release also said the page can be accessed through the main district page and will provide transparency, as well as information for the SAISD community.”
