RICHARDSON, TX – The Richardson Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning in the area of 1500 North Greenville Avenue.

Just after 11:00am, Richardson officers were dispatched to the Central Expressway after an armed man was seen in the area. The first officer observed a man holding a gun to his chin and standing on the shoulder of the highway.

Officers immediately closed down all northbound and southbound traffic while they attempted to negotiate with the individual. The suspect walked along the highway as officers trailed closely behind.

Less than lethal rounds were fired twice, but they did not subdue the armed man. He eventually walked along Greenville Avenue from Central Expressway and into an outdoor employee area near a business parking lot. It was around this time that the man raised his weapon at officers, forcing one of them to shoot.

The man was shot in the shoulder and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
